Advanced Breast Cancer

Description: Support for women living with Stage IV breast cancer of all ages. Share experiences, solutions, triumphs and concerns. Topics of discussion include coping with treatment side effects, facing fears, pain management, communicating with family and more.This group requires pre-registration. Coping & Beyond

Description: An ongoing group for patients and survivors dealing with stage I, II, III breast cancer. Monthly meetings will help participants cope with short, medium and long-term effects of breast cancer and its treatment. Discussions will focus on the issues of importance to those in the group, and may include treatment decisions, communicating with family, friends & medical team, managing hair loss and fatigue, fear of recurrence, loss of control, loss of independence, chemo-brain, body image, post-treatment anxiety, self-esteem and employment issues, whole also focusing on practical ways to move beyond breast cancer and return to wellness. Newly diagnosed patients will bond with others beginning their journeys, and learn from those who are further along in their healing. Those who have completed their treatment can share their experience and coping tips, benefit from seeing how far they’ve come, and be empowered to look to the future with positivity. Young Survivors

Description: BCRC and Young Survivor Coalition of Greater Philadelphia have teamed up to bring you a monthly peer-facilitated support group addressing the unique concerns of women under the age of 40 who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Young women at any stage of their breast cancer journey are welcome to attend. Whether you have just been diagnosed, are still undergoing treatment or are several years out, join us to connect with other young women who have faced breast cancer. A Bis’l This & A Bis’l That!

From the shtetls of Eastern Europe, to the fun of Second Avenue’s Yiddish theatre and to the glitter of the Broadway musical, get ready for an entertaining and amazing performance with Naomi Miller! Naomi will sing some klezmer. She’ll sing cabaret. She’ll sing some jazz. She’ll sing some Broadway tunes. She’ll sing Israeli songs. Naomi will sing “A Bis’l This & A Bis’l That!”

 

ABOUT NAOMI MILLER
Naomi was born in Landsberg, Germany in a displaced persons camp after the war. She has been performing since grade school when she was discovered while singing in the acoustically tiled walls of the mikveh run by her parents.

Nosh & Knowledge Presents: What’s Your Story? Leaving a Legacy

 

Description: Steve Besserman of AriJoe Productions, will present his short documentary “Bunnie” and discuss the importance of leaving a legacy by preserving your life story and family history. “Bunnie” is about 1 99-year-young woman who endured the depression, was married to a WWII veteran who received the Purple Heart, raised four children, and performed on stage in school, community theater and even did a strip tease act into the 90s. Bunnie maintains her independence and demonstrates the strength of the human spirit. Her story is poignant and inspiring. A kosher lunch will be served and there is a suggested donation of $5.00 per person.

Rose & Louis H. Linowitz Mensch Award

Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Greater Mercer County announces the Rose & Louis H. Linowitz Mensch Award. This is a merit-based award for deserving Jewish eighth grade and High School senior students living in Mercer County. Candidates should exemplify what it means to be a mensch – a person if integrity and honor, a doer of good deeds, and an all-around good person. Students must be nominated by a member of the community such as a Rabbi, educator, youth group advisor, secular school guidance counselor, teacher, parent, etc. Eighth-grade Mensch-In-Training award is $300 and High School senior Mensch Award winners will receive $1500. This is not a need-based scholarship. Applications are due by May 7th.

Nice T!ts: A Reconstructive Comedy with Amy Marcs

 

Description: Amy had a great rack. Then she got cancer. This Off-Broadway show is a reconstructive comedy about hope, love and the resiliency of the human spirit. Written and performed by Amy Marcs, directed by Peter Michael Marino, hear her personal story with breast cancer in her unique storytelling style. Enjoy this one-woman show followed by a panel discussion with medical & mental health professionals and breast cancer survivors. Linda Grenis is chairwoman.
